Disoriented is based on the stories told- or imagined to be told- by the building at 31 Ithakis Street in Athens.

The work unfolds in two parts. The first part takes the form of a single 12-inch vinyl record. It features sounds drawn from the house itself: domestic and architectural noises, recordings made through the use of an imaginary turntable that might have once existed in this space, poems by Odysseas Elytis — who lived in the building for several years — and excerpts from notebooks, newspaper and other ephemera discovered on the premises. Fact, rumor, and speculation coexist, forming an acoustic archive in which documented history and imagined memory are inseparable.

The second part of the work is inspired by a stained-glass window at the entrance of the building. A fragment of this stained glass is isolated and displaced into another room of the apartment, functioning as a reminder, a déjà vu, or a hypnotic portal over which the vinyl record slowly rotates. Just as the information we have about the building is fragmentary — and its stories incomplete — the stained glass is presented not as a whole, but as a shard: a fragment of the original window, and simultaneously a fragment of the building’s truth.

Through sound, material displacement, and repetition, Disoriented treats the building as a sentient body that remembers imperfectly. The work proposes that memory — architectural, personal, or collective — is always partial, mediated, and haunted by what is missing.
